Question! Why are gun bans sold as crime control? I mean, aren't the people the bans are supposed to hamper the very same people that will ignore them?
I don't believe for an instant that the gun banners are that stupid. I am willing to believe that they live in genuine fear of violence, however. Any kind of violence, from that of the mass murderer to that of the grandmother defending herself from said murderer.
How many times have you read/heard/discussed arms control and gotten into the more philosophical debate on self-defense, and they were firmly against it? How many times have you heard "I'm just glad the victim wasn't armed, someone else might've gotten hurt in the crossfire"? "Active Compliance" rhetoric?
